3D PHOTOGRAMMETRY FOR REEF MONITORING

We work together with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) in Thailand to support the efforts of coral reef monitoring in the Gulf of Thailand.

We use  3D photogrammetry to build detailed and accurate 3D photos of natural and artificial reefs. 3D photogrammetry is a useful tool for monitoring changes on the reefs, such as coral bleaching and coral deterioration from human activities such as tourism, pier construction, cable lines etc. It also helps to support coral reef management plans in the area together with the Koh Tao Thai Divers team (KTTD).

Koh Tao has 12 permanent long term reef monitoring sites around the island. Recently, new artificial reef blocks were deployed on various sites.
